The sky is intensely blue over the ocean south of Puna and nearby Kaʻū, as seen from Kealakomo mauka as lehua bloom, toward Ka Lae O ʻĀpua. New and fresh winds directly from the east rustle lau kukui on Hōlei Pali. Convective thunder clouds gather over Kīlauea summit in the afternoon, and the sea is calm at Ka Lae O Kaʻena at Pānau Nui. A strikingly large amount of steam rises on the flanks of Maunaulu in the rain in ʻĀpua mauka.
