Hāpu‘u Fronds Unfurl in Puna

The pattern continues of scant rainfall, and an atmosphere full of the breath of Pele and the smell of lava flow-induced forest fires in the mauka areas of Kea‘au-Puna.  Hāpu‘u fronds unfurl often in groups of three, lehua petals carpet the forest floor and grace spiderwebs; ‘elepaio call out in the smoky stillness.
