Ahi grass, invasive species with local connections?

Growing up in South Kona, a friend told us about how her father would always point out when the ahi grass (molasses grass, Melinis minutiflora) was blooming and he would say that the ahi or tuna would be running. Mahalo to @knowledge_in_motion for posting his observation that the ahi grass is now blooming in the Puna district on Hawaii island. Let’s watch the local ahi poke prices to see if the come down, we figure if the ahi are running, the prices will go down!
